The NY Times has an extremely sad article this morning on the devastating effects of malnutrition on children in Africa.
The article is titled “Malnutrition is Cheating it’s Survivors, and Africa’s Future”.
Most people know that thousands of children still die of malnutrition and starvation every year in Africa and in other impoverished parts of the world, but as the article points out, little attention is paid to the effects of malnutrition on those that survive.

Sorry I was so quiet this weekend. I went away with my best friend (no kids!) and we went on a small road trip to a Speaking of Women’s Health conference. I have never been before and it was a wonderful experience.
It was a full day of speakers and classes, all aimed at women’s health issues. Everyone
that attended got a huge bag that was just chock full of gifts, free samples, etc. and it was added to throughout the day. Included was everything from make up to vitamins to a gift card to Walmart.... more

I have to admit that the title of this one made me cringe. “Foreign Adoption Often Means Unhealthy Children”.
The article is better than the title, but it is a bit scattered. I think that the term “unhealthy” is not necessarily an accurate one either. They quote that...

This site is full of information, including how to have them evaluate a referral, how to schedule an appointment once your child is home (if you live in that area), and perhaps best of all, an “Ask the Doc” blog, where adoptive parents can post questions and have them answered by a doctor who specializes in treating children adopted internationally.
