Someone just sent me a link to this adoption documentary titled, "Forget the Past". This documentary looks at international adoption of children in India by families in India, Denmark and the United States.

The film was produced and directed by Sarah Brandt Talreja, who was born in India, adopted internationally and transracially at a very young age, raised in Denmark and is currently living in Los Angeles. The film was created to show what life is like in orphanages in India to give prospective adoptive parents a better understanding of where their children are coming from. The film looks at the adoption process from both the child's... more

Great Blog for Adoptive Parents

Many parents who were adopting from Ethiopia last year were familiar with the blog "Destination Ethiopia", which was written by Denise B., a volunteer who spent seven months at Adoption Advocates International's Layla House in Addis Ababa.

Denise did a wonderful job blogging about her experiences with the children. She talked about the emotional highs and lows of orphanage life, for both her and the children. She shared her joy as children were united with adoptive families, and shared her sadness of missing kids she grew close to. She shared... more

Tips for Transracial Adoptive Parents

If you have not yet visited the "Anti-Racist Parent" blog, it is a wonderful resource for transracial adoptive parents. The Anti-Racist parent blog is a blog (produced by an anti-racism training company titled New Demographic) for parents who are committed to raising their children with an anti-racist outlook, which is obviously something that should be very important for all transracial adoptive parents.

While most of the posts on this blog are educational, appropriate for transracial adoptive families and very thought provoking, Wednesday's post this week is a real gem for transracial adoptive... more

Continued from previous post...

Fly Away Home- Emily works with HIV+ woman and children, and is also an adoptive mom of two darling little boys from Ethiopia. She has been writing educational posts about HIV on her blog and they are amazing. Even if you are not considering ever adopting a child with HIV, this is worth reading. Even I , who consider myself to be highly educated on the matter as the mother of an HIV+ child, learned a lot. Thanks Em, for taking the time to educate those around you.

Adopt Blogger- If you haven’t read this blog, it is a good one to bookmark. Martha, creator of... more

Here are some blogs/posts that I am going to recommend for your reading pleasure. :)

There are oodles of family blogs that I read and “check in” with that are great, but here are some specific posts and blogs that have go beyond the typical fun family updates and have had something really good (in my opinion) to say lately. Food for thought if you will…

Ethiopian Adoption Travelogue- The Feb. 4 post on the Take One Book and Ethiopia Reads program is a great one, AND she is giving away a free book. I say “Pick me! Pick me!”

Add the info to your blog and get in on the contest, if this is something that interests... more

What adoption means

A few of my co-bloggers here on Adoption.com have had some recent posts on what Adoption is. How would you fill in the blank…Adoption_________________.

You can read Julie’s post on the Special Needs blog here and you can read Dr. G’s post on the Adoptive Parenting blog here.

One of the posts started because a friend of the blogger had been discouraged reading some of the other blogs, because of the level of negativity that is out there. If you’ve done any research on adoption at all, I am sure you know how easy it is... more

Blogs to read

Blogs are fun. Not only are they a great way to connect with other adoptive families, to get a ton of great adoption advice from those who have “been there done that” and to get a good idea of what adopting is really like (from the adoptive parents point of view), they provide a wealth of information and are really fun to read.

There are blogs out there from families whose children are home. There are blogs out there from adoptive parents “in the process”. There are blogs kept while families are traveling abroad to get their child. There are all sorts of adoption-related blogs out there to entertain you, educate you, get you thinking and get you connected to other adoptive parents... more

Blog. It is sort of a funny-sounding word, isn’t it? I casually mentioned to a family member that I was really enjoying being a “blogger”, and she looked at me like I was nuts. She had never heard of a blog, so certainly didn’t know what a blogger was. Truth be told, this same person probably wasn’t familiar with the terms “texting” or “surfing the net” either… Technology sure has a way of changing our vocabulary! Actually, my fairly new computer doesn’t seem to know what a blog is either, because it keeps turning that word red with my spell-check program.

So, just what is a blog? The term blog is short for web log, which Wikipedia defines as,... more
