I love reading other families’ adoption stories. In fact, reading other families’ adoption stories is how I first started to think that maybe adoption was right for MY family. I had looked at all of the agency websites and done a lot of research, and to be honest, all of the countries and agencies and policies and paperwork and money and every thing else was a bit overwhelming. But when I started to read about the adoption journeys of other families, I found myself thinking that I could handle it, that I wanted to experience it and that it was the right thing for us.

I am always on the lookout for good resources for transracial families and I recently stumbled across another great resource to share with you.

The website is called iCelebrateDiversity.com and the website not only features an online shop with a variety of multicultural products such as home décor, stationary, books, apparel, etc. but what sets this site apart from other online stores, is that it also offers many resources for multiracial and multicultural families.

Every page on the site features the quote, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed... more

Whether you are starting your first adoption or your tenth, you are sure to notice the importance that agencies, both homestudy agencies and placement agencies, are placing on adoption education and preparation.

As children adopted in the 70’s have grown into adults that can give feedback on what it is like to be adopted, social workers and other professionals have learned a lot about what is important to help a child, especially a transracially adopted child, thrive in an adoptive family and become a happy, confident adult.

One example of this is the importance of acknowledging,... more

Whether you are in the research stage of your adoption or your child is already forever home in your arms, a wonderful way to learn about adoption is reading other families’ adoption stories.

The internet not only serves as a wonderful research tool when looking into adoption, but it allows people with similar interests to connect and share their stories in ways that would not be possible otherwise.

I know many people who have been inspired to adopt after reading another family’s adoption story online. In fact, way back when Josh and I were just talking and praying about the idea of adopting (and I was researching behind his back…LOL), it was after I read a family’s story... more

Keeping kids safe from sex offenders

This is a little bit off topic in regards to transracial adoption, but someone posted this information on one of my email groups this morning and I thought it was important enough for all parents that I would share it on here.

The Family Watchdog website is a site that provides information to parents, grandparents, babysitters, etc. about sex offenders. The site allows you to put in your address, and a map comes up with all of the registered sex offenders in your area. This site shows registered sex offenders that live near your home or school, and ones that work near your home or school. You might be unpleasantly surprised who is living... more

I just found a really wonderful website! It is from the New York State Citizens’ Coalition for Children, and it is an “Ask the Experts” page for questions about transracial adoption! How great is that?? Here is the link, http://www.nysccc.org/T-Rarts/askme.html

You can read through the archives and get lots of great information and advice, or you can post your own question, if you have one. The experts are two older, transracial adoptees who are highly educated and experienced. I found this to be a wonderful resource and hope you enjoy it and take advantage of it.

On the main webpage the give a list of resources, which... more
