I just realized I forgot my “Wednesday funny” yesterday, so here you go… a Wednesday funny on Thursday, just to keep you on your toes. :)
Today’s funny is another one from Mr. Marcus. The kid is so “TWO” right now, and while he is strong-willed and at times somewhat volatile, he is also sweet and cuddly and extremely hilarious.
This past week Marcus hasn’t been the happiest guy in the mornings. You see, that rotten school bus has been coming and stealing six of his favorite people every morning…carrying them off to somewhere that apparently in Marcus’s mind is surely torturous and dangerous.
If there is anything that Marcus feels more strongly about at this point in... more
Wednesday funnies sure do sneak up on me. Especially now that Wednesday is our soccer day…things are busy around here on “hump day”.
Today I am going to write about Ben. The kid is hilarious. I often joke around saying, “Ah…just what this family needed…another comedian.” Seriously, we could have a “Last Comic Standing” just between my kids and it would be tough competition (especially if you enjoy some good potty jokes).
Ben is funny sometimes because he tries to be, and he is funny quite often when he isn’t even trying to be.
He... more
Well apparently I bored you all to death with my immigration posts…four posts and not a single comment…sorry. They weren’t exactly fun to write, but I am supposed to have “how to” sort of posts and I do hope that they will help someone out. Immigration is definitely not fun reading (or writing).
Anyway, here is a Wednesday funny to hopefully change the mood.
Marcus is two. He is VERY two. He is truly hilarious, and it the source of a large percentage of the laughter around here.
He may grow up to be a lawyer specializing in equal rights for everyone. He is ALL about equality….power to the toddlers. It doesn’t matter what the other kids are getting or doing, he demands... more
Wednesday is more than half over and I still need to get a "Wednesday funny" up today.
Here is one that a lot of you parents of transracial families will appreciate.
One day back in spring of 2004 when Marcus was still a new little baby, Josh and I were at the park with our kids (who at that point were our three biological sons, Nathan, Ryan and Shane, Maggie from Vietnam and Amanda from Korea. Mercy and Des came just a few months later).
Anyway, I was sitting on a bench in the shade with baby Marcus while Josh ran around the playground with the other five kids. A woman who was at the park with two little boys came over and sat down next to me. She eyed Marcus, and... more
Last summer we took a family vacation to New York, where most of my family lives. We had moved away from New York five years earlier, and there were quite a few family members we had not seen much, if at all, during that time. Our family had grown by five kids at that point (we left NY with our three little boys) so, there were a lot of people in my family who hadn’t gotten to meet most of my kids.
It was our first big family vacation in a few years, and our first big trip with Marcus, Mercy and Des. Everyone was excited.
We got a decent deal on plane tickets on Jet Blue, which meant our flight was a night flight. It wasn’t my first choice of itineraries and I worried about... more
These Wednesday funnies are really fun to write.
Some week’s I have to think about what “funny” I will write about for awhile, but this one I have had in my head for a few days. It is a great reminder of just how different from ours the culture is that my son comes from!
On Saturday night we went to the rodeo as a family. Benjamin (almost 6 years old, home from Ethiopia for almost 5 months now) was really excited and enjoyed it a lot. We started telling him about other fun events that we have in the summer, and got to talking about the county fair that is coming up at... more
This week’s Wednesday funny is a story, but the visual images are the really funny part.
In February, Josh and I were in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, adopting our son Benjamin Bekalu, who is five years old. His adjustment to us was amazingly smooth and easy from almost day one and we had a ton of fun with him that week in Addis, getting to know him and having him get to know us. Part of the fun was getting to know his likes and dislikes, much of which was through trial and error.
Food was an area that was lots of trial and error. (Rice Krispie treats- GOOD!) (French... more
My stinking server has been down all day today (again!!!!) so I have not been able to get my Wednesday funny up. I have to get all the kids in bed here pretty soon, but I wanted to get something up quick.
This isn’t one of those comical stories with a punch line or anything, but I hope you find it amusing and get a chuckle.
Maggie and Amanda are my two little Asian girls. We adopted Maggie from Vietnam when she was three months old, and then right before both girls turned two years old, we added Amanda from Korea. Amanda is three months older than Maggie, but was born... more
To lighten the mood from my last post and in sticking with the Father’s Day theme of the week, this “Wednesday Funny” has to do with dads (and men in general). ![]()
My husband is a member of our local Rotary Club. One week they had a doctor from South America who was visiting and doing a presentation for the meeting. Before the meeting, introductions were being made and the doctor commented on “how many children” one of the other men had. Well at that, someone else said, “Well if you think he has a lot of children, you need to meet Josh!”
So Josh was introduced and it... more
Lots of people refer to Wednesday as “hump day”, because it is the middle of the week. You’ve already made it through a long Monday and Tuesday, but the weekend is still looking really far away. So to help you get through “hump day”, I have decided to do “Wednesday Funnies”, where every Wednesday I will share a funny story with you. The funnies I will share will have to do with family life, parenting, children, etc. With nine kids in the house I have plenty of material for my own “Kids Say the Darndest Things” (and some “Adults Say the Darndest Things!”). Sometimes it is so easy... more
