A few of my co-bloggers here on Adoption.com have had some recent posts on what Adoption is. How would you fill in the blank…Adoption_________________.
You can read Julie’s post on the Special Needs blog here and you can read Dr. G’s post on the Adoptive Parenting blog here.
One of the posts started because a friend of the blogger had been discouraged reading some of the other blogs, because of the level of negativity that is out there. If you’ve done any research on adoption at all, I am sure you know how easy it is... more
Today is the day that the new Rainbowkids site has launched! If you are not familiar with Rainbowkids, it is not only the largest website dedicated to international adoption, it is also a huge photolisting of children available for international adoption, a monthly e-magazine and a website chock full of information and support for adoptive parents. Other features include chats and blogs that you can use without any charge.
Rainbowkids was created by Martha Osborne, who along with her husband has five daughters... more
I was searching the internet, looking for new resources and articles on transracial adoption and I came across a bunch of articles on transracial adoption that were new to me.
I am going to be discussing them over the next few days, and tonight I am going to start with “Transracial Adoption: Parent’s Wish List and Child’s Bill of Rights”, which is actually taken from a book titled “Inside Transracial Adoption” by Gail Steinberg and Beth Hall. (You can purchase this book at Adoptionshop.com here)
Both the Parent’s Wish... more

The Ergo is somewhat of the gold standard of baby/toddler carriers. It is extremely well made, comfortable for parent and child and comes in a great range of colors. You can use the Ergo to carry your child on your front, back or hip. With a young baby, you would use the front position, and with an older child, the back position.
It also has a darling super-soft, cotton “hood” for younger babies, which can be used to keep off rain and sun, and to support a sleeping baby’s head. It’s a wonderful idea.
The Ergo costs $92, which includes shipping, and is completely refundable for 30 days. The people at Ergo are very supportive of adoptive... more
Today I thought I would do a product review. I have been trying to get things fairly ready for our trip to get Belane. We most likely will not be going until mid November, (63 days) but we found out that there is a decent possibility that we could go as early as mid to late October, so the crazed “organizer and planner” in me is having a hay day.
One of the things I’ve decided that we really need for this trip is a carrier…meaning a hip carrier that would work for a toddler.
I have used different baby carriers, slings and backpacks for our other children and really have found them to not only be handy when “out and about”, but wonderful for the bonding process. Your child... more
I just finished reading “There Is No Me Without You” by Melissa Fay Greene. It is amazing, and I encourage everyone reading my blog to read this book.
For those of you that don’t know Melissa, she wrote the powerful articles I wrote about in this post. Her writing has inspired many families to adopting African orphans.
“There Is No Me Without You” tells the story of Haregewoin Teferra, an Ethiopian... more
The September issue of Rainbowkids online magazine is now up, and as always, there is a great selection of articles. My favorite this month is titled “Finding the Balance in Adoption” and is written by Susan Soon Keum Cox. This is a fantastic article on transracial adoption.
If you haven’t heard of Susan Soon Keum Cox before, here is here bio from the bottom of the article…
"Susan, adopted from Korea in 1956, is the Vice President for Public Policy and External Affairs at Holt International Children’s Services, the world’s largest adoption agency. As... more
Yesterday a Seattle newspaper had an interesting “quiz” about international adoption. It was written by columnist Joyce Brothers. If you’re not familiar with her, Dr. Joyce Brothers is a family psychologist and advice columnist (who is now a spry 78 years old).
Yesterdays’ article is titled “International Adoption is not for Everyone” and in it, Dr. Joyce Brothers gives some basic information on the possible psychological aspects of international adoption. The information is given in a “quiz” format, where she makes a statement and you guess true or false, and then the answers and additional information is given... more
If you do not already receive it, Adoption.com has a free, weekly E-magazine on adoption that is full or adoption related news, products, services and all sorts of other good
information. If you’d like to sign up for the Adoption.com weekly E-magazine, you can do so by clicking here.
This week there is a good article included in the e-magazine titled “Asian Children Growing... more
Today there was yet another article on transracial adoption in the media. This one was in the Chicago Tribune. I've cut and paste the entire text of the article because the website makes you register to read it, which is a pain in the you know what. :)
I know one of the families personally in this article and even delivered their gift package and photo album to little Safia when we were in Addis in February.
I think this article is better done than most. I love that they point out that Ethiopian adoptions were happening and becoming more popular BEFORE Angelina. Enjoy the read.
