A Day in the life of Me- the evening

Continued...

6 p.m.- We all sat down to dinner…tacos, tortilla chips, salsa and carrot sticks (and water…we only ever drink anything else on special occasions). We had ice cream for desert called “Brownies on the Moon” (except for Marcus, who had vanilla, because “Brownies on the Moon” has eggs in it).

6:30 p.m.- Josh took Jazz outside while I cleaned up the kitchen and the big kids went to do their 30 minutes of reading. The little kids went off to find their pajamas and pick up their rooms.

7 p.m.- Everyone complained because college basketball was on instead of Survivor. Stinking March Madness. :) Mercy and Nate got their showers done. I did another round of folding, moving and starting laundry.

7:20 p.m. My best friend showed up with her car so I could drive it to Utah the next day (and leave Josh our van). I drove her back home and we chit chatted for a little bit.

7:45 p.m. I walked back in the door and we started prayers and the good night routine.

8 p.m.- Can you say Gray’s Anatomy??? It is the only show I stop my life for… I love it. It’s my favorite. It is my hour. My grandmother would say I couldn’t love a TV show (and that you could only love people) but she clearly never saw Gray’s Anatomy. :)

8:15 p.m.- Everyone was in bed but Marcus and Belane, who got into their jammies, went potty, etc.

8:30 p.m. –Josh gave Belane her meds (one of her meds is a big pill that she takes in a spoonful of applesauce, and Marcus always needs a spoonful of applesauce too), and we put Marcus and Belane to bed (during a commercial!)

8:35- 9 p.m. I watched the rest of Gray’s Anatomy with Josh.

9 p.m.- I walked the dog one more time.

9:10 p.m.- I came in and saw the email about the HIV adoption documentary trailer being online. Josh and I watched it a couple of times and I quick put up a post on my personal blog about it. Super cool!!!

9:30 p.m. –Josh and I started our Alias fix for the night. Since I had to drive a lot the next day he only let me watch two episodes before he mandated a bed time.

11:20 p.m.- I made sure my cell phone and Ipod were charging for the road trip, set my alarm for an hour earlier (ouch) and got into bed with Josh. Good night!

Notes…this was a pretty typical Thursday. Thursdays are our busiest days…preschool, early release and the kids’ activities. It seems that here where we live, every activity is scheduled on Thursdays. Whew.

But, there were no illnesses, injuries or tragedies…the kids were all in good moods and got along…Josh was home before bed time…all good stuff. Sooner or later you'll get one of "those days" on here...The phone didn’t ring much at all which was nice on a busy day. The kids rarely have homework (besides their reading which I have them do 6 days a week at least) on Thursdays, which is nice too.

I am sure I missed some things, but that is the bulk of it. Insert lots of laughing, playing, running, talking, "I love you's", etc., as well as some diaper changes, sippee cup fillings, mess cleanings, some tattling, dog tug of wars, etc.

And there you have it. A day in the life of me!

Just reading that makes me tired... you do it so well and it seems like you have a really great system in place. Thank goodness for busses that come to the house and daddy's that can take kids places.... :-)

Wow, you really get up early and stay up late! Very, very impressive schedule. I would have trouble keeping track of who is doing what. You are amazing.

Thanks for the compliments on my hair... I had it long FOREVER, and have played with this shorter hair style over the last year or so.

Yes, we have a pretty good system... I can't imagine having 10 kids (or even three kids) without having at least a basic schedule. We loosen things up a lot in the summer and on vacation, but during the school year things are pretty regular. I also try hard all the time not to mess with meals and sleep (especially for the little kids).

Bek...definitely thank goodness for busses and Josh helping with the "schlepping". On the days he is gone and I have to do it all myself it is really tiring.

My calendar is essential to keeping all the activites straight. If something is on my calendar, it is etched in stone and will not be forgotten. If it is not on my calendar...well, it ain't happening. :)

And as far as sleep goes... as long as I get 7 hours, I do fine. Less than that, and I struggle. More than that and I am feeling pretty dang good. :)

It does sound exhausting when I look at all written out, but I bet if any of you wrote out everything you did in a day it would look similarly exhausting. Don't you think?

Thanks for reading... it cracks me up that my average Thursday is interesting reading!!!

Hugs,
E
