A Wednesday Funny on Thursday

I just realized I forgot my “Wednesday funny” yesterday, so here you go… a Wednesday funny on Thursday, just to keep you on your toes. :)

Today’s funny is another one from Mr. Marcus. The kid is so “TWO” right now, and while he is strong-willed and at times somewhat volatile, he is also sweet and cuddly and extremely hilarious.

This past week Marcus hasn’t been the happiest guy in the mornings. You see, that rotten school bus has been coming and stealing six of his favorite people every morning…carrying them off to somewhere that apparently in Marcus’s mind is surely torturous and dangerous.

If there is anything that Marcus feels more strongly about at this point in his life than the importance of toddlers receiving equal treatment and rights as the rest of society (you can read about that here) it is the importance of all of us, all 11 members of his immediate family, staying together ALL of the time.

If we split up in a store to get shopping done more quickly, he has a fit. If we take two cars to go somewhere, he has a melt down. If Nathan takes off on his bike down the road…real tears. If Mercy goes off with a friend…ultimate sadness. When we drop the big kids off at Tae Kwon Do (EVERY WEEK), more of the same. You get the idea.
His sadness is matched only by the sheer joy he has when we are all back home together. He jumps up and down and shouts out people’s names and runs around hugging everyone.

So, this back to school stuff has been awful for him. Some mornings he sleeps through the departure of the big kids, which is wonderful, but most mornings he has been there to witness their departure. He waves and cries and waves and cries and not only my kids, but the rest of the kids on the bus wave back at him, as they head off down the road to what Marcus seems to be sure is certain death.

Well, yesterday Marcus’s speech therapist came before lunch. Because of all of his health problems in his early days, Marcus is a bit delayed in his speech, although he is just about caught up and ready to “graduate” from speech. His speech therapist comes to our house twice a month and she brings a variety of toys to play with with Marcus to encourage him to say different things, etc.

Yesterday when she arrived I let her in and once they got started I snuck off for a minute to finish drying my hair.

I came back in and the therapist was looking concerned.

I asked what was wrong and she said, “I just don’t understand it. All of the other kids love this bus.” And she held up a plastic school bus, complete with bus driver and kids to play with. “Marcus keeps hitting it and throwing it,” she added.

I had to laugh (and explain).

And Marcus managed to learn a new phrase yesterday... “Bad Bus.”
