Happy Tuesday everybody! After our day off yesterday, today sure does feel like Monday…I guess it is nice though, because that means it will be the weekend before I know it. :)

Today I have been jotting down notes on everything that I do and everything that happens today for my “Day in the Life of Me” monthly posts I am going to start tomorrow.

But for today, I thought I would write about hair products. Since being placed with us, one of my biggest struggles with Miss Belane is her scalp. She has the driest scalp in all the land, and we have gone through many products.

In fact, when we first got Belane, her scalp was super dry, her hair was full of flakes and she even had some big scabs…it was a mess. I assumed she had ringworm, but after some doctor appointments and tests they decided she just has a very, very dry scalp (the scabs were actually from her scratching it in her sleep…she still does it sometimes at night, although she knows when she is awake not to scratch. It has become so routine for me that at night I can hear her scratching and pull her hand down from her head without even fully waking up or opening my eyes. She never wakes up either!)

So the challenge became to find a product that would moisturize her scalp and also be nice for her hair. Boy did we try a lot of things before finding something that works!

Let me first say that she has wonderful hair. It is soft and curly…beautiful, loose spiral curls. It is too soft and short to do anything with, so it is just natural. I absolutely love her hair! We have had good luck with lots of different shampoo and conditioner products, including Circle of Friends, Kids Organics and Suave. Her hair isn’t really the problem though.

Our Marcus had a very dry scalp as a baby and the magic product for him was Burt’s Bees Buttermilk lotion. It is all natural, smells delicious and worked wonders. It is a very “runny” lotion (not thick, which is why it rubbed into his short hair easily) and costs about $10 a bottle for 7oz. While it was great on Belane’s skin and did seem to make her scalp fairly happy, it was too goopy for her longer hair, and really made it feel icky.
