So let’s see…what did I forget….

Belane is a copy cat and she is a very girlie girl. When I was getting ready for the day with my one-gal audience, she had to put on moisturizer when I put on moisturizer, she put on lipgloss when I put on lipgloss, she brushes hair when I brush hair, etc. She is darling! She is not overly fond of the crayons, games, dolls or other toys we brought, but she has been sporting the pink sunglasses we brought her almost constantly.

She was a little less standoff-ish with Josh today. She does this “one shoulder shrug” which we have been told means “no” and that is what she does to him if he gets too close and she is not in the mood (mostly when she is tired or nervous). She did give him a very sweet kiss today and played with him quite a bit, and she does look for him whenever he’s not right near us. She’s warming up quickly. (And since our other two little girls are big time daddy’s girls, I am just fine with having one for me…although my arms are on fire from carrying her so much!!!)

She’ll still go to anyone who speaks Amharic to her with a bit of prodding, but she is not interested in any other ferenge (white people) other than me and some Dad. She’ll get over that soon enough! She is all about hugs and kisses and cuddles with me. She’s quite the love!!!!!

Belane has this teeny tiny voice…most of her communicating has been through shrugs, nods and points, but she whispers when she really needs to tell you something and doesn’t want to talk. It’s too cute…you can’t understand her, but it is really cute.
She shows off that darling little voice when she is playing, and she loves to sing too…but only loud enough so I can hear. Her giggle is priceless.

She is a tease…she’ll take a piece of food and go to feed it to me, and then all of a sudden shove it in her mouth and giggle. She likes peek a boo and chase too.

No news on the waiver…tomorrow is “do or die”. We’ll either get good news in the morning or get to moving things to a Friday departure. I’ll let you know as soon as we know something.

And to close…the AHOPE kids are awesome. They are the sweetest, happiest, loviest bunch of kids. They are happy and healthy and very loved. They desperately want, deserve and need families. We had such a wonderful time today spending time with these angels, and it is the deepest prayer of our hearts that they all find forever families.

That’s all for now. I haven’t heard anything new on the home front so I am assuming that no news is good news…I love it here…but I cannot wait go home and have my whole family together!!!!

Oh, she is simply too cute! She sounds like a real sweetheart with a great little sense of humour. I didn't comment yesterday (things were a little hectic) but I had a tear running down my face as I read how Belane came running out of the orphanage to you with her arms flung in the air. It is amazing how prepared she is - they must have done a wonderful job explaining the whole deal to her. It's also gorgeous how she kept looking for you guys at AHOPE today. She knows.

Thank you so much for sharing Belane's story with all of us. I know she will be an inspiration to many. Thanks for helping break down those barriers. Looking forward to hearing more from your trip and of course photos when you get home! Oh and good luck with the waiver :)

Another wonderful day! She must have known that you were her mother when you first met her last winter -just as you knew she was meant to be yours. Good luck with the waiver and please give hugs to H & H for us!

Erin,
I've been reading your blog since you brought Ben home but haven't commented much. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to include us on your journeys - emotional, paperwork and now physical - to Belane. It is heartwarming and inspiring to read your stories and have a window into your day-to-day family life. Congratulations on your new addition! I hope everything goes smoothly for your trip back home to the rest of the family.

I'm so very impressed that with all the excitement of the goings-on in your family that you're able to keep us all up-to-date, with not one but MULTIPLE posts each day. Thank you for that.

The entire adventure sounds as though it has all happened, just as it was meant to be. And indeed, it is.

That is so cute! My daughter, Tizita, has been home for 13 years. She was escorted home at about 2 1/2.

It is so fun reading your blogg, because it brings back so many memories of Tizita's first weeks with me. I remember those shrugs and the excitement about taking a bath. She tore off her clothes and stood in the tub and washed herself all over.

I also remember that if she didn't like the food that was served to her, she would push the plate away and spit on the floor.

I am so happy for you.

Ha! Our Ethio kids did the one-shoulder-shrug, too! ;-) And they LOVED sunglasses. Thanks for bringing the memories back, Erin. You are a gifted writer--I feel as though I am right there with you. Belane sounds like a dream!
