Ethiopian dinner! Part Two

Continued from here

We served up dinner of doro wat, shiro wat and injera, along with a huge pot of spaghetti for the kids that didn’t feel brave (although to their credit, they all tried it). Most of the kids loved the doro wat, although most of them chose to mix it in with their spaghetti instead of eating it with the injera. Injera is definitely an acquired taste. (I love it).

Josh and I ate WAY too much. It is amazing to me how much smells and tastes can affect your memories.

Ben ate oodles and oodles…he was literally giddy with the hard boiled eggs in the doro wat and the rest of the food. Belane was thrilled too and ate her fill. When we were heating everything up she kept coming into the kitchen and asking for “a bite”, and then we’d give her one and chase her out, and three seconds later she’d be back asking for “one more bite.”

It was really fun (and super yummy), and I am excited about having connected with an Ethiopian family and finding a great source for food.

Oh, and if you look at the picture of Belane…I did her hair yesterday for the first time! We were all laying around watching a movie, and I decided to play with it. Her hair is much softer and more loosely curled than my older girls, so I don’t think it will hold styles quite as well, but it was fun to play. It was just long enough to do cornrows, but the hair was so short that it was really tough. I started doing some little box braids (or “hanging braids” as my girls call them) but her hair wasn’t really long enough for that either. So we did some puffs…I’ve never had a little girl to do puffs on before!

She strutted around and everyone told her how great she looked. She was SUCH a ham about it. A few hours later she asked me to take them out because they were “owie”, so I did. I think she looked pretty dang cute though! Her hair doesn’t tangle or get matted so it is easy to leave down too.

So, that was our Sunday. We had a fantastic Ethiopian dinner and had fun doing baby girl’s hair. Enjoy the pictures (and yes, Belane is shirtless...I've seen her eat this stuff before!)

I didn't even notice that Belane didn't have a shirt on! That's too cute! And smart.

I really should allow my kids to eat shirtless more often - how many items of clothing have been ruined at mealtimes!
