Happy Spring!

Happy Spring everybody!!! If you have a calendar you probably have noticed that today is the first day of spring. Depending on where you live, it may not feel like spring quite yet (we are still getting oodles of snow up here in the Rockies), but winter if officially over.

I don’t know about you, but spring is exciting for me. For one, it’s almost my birthday. (March 24th). Birthdays are so much fun when you are a mom. Ok, so I may not get many presents, and I won’t he having swarms of my friends over, but the kids get SO excited about my birthday that it’s hard not to get excited too. There have been all sorts of conversations about what kind of cake I should have (chocolate had the most votes, although not my favorite). There have been great debates over what dad should get me (he vetoed the kitten AND the pony. Drats.) I have gotten advise on what to where, who should come over, what we should eat for dinner…you name it! And there have been lots of “Mom! Don’t look!” when the kids are doing arts and crafts. I have a feeling that my card pile is going to be impressive. J

So, I am excited for my birthday. I am also excited about Easter. It will be our first “official” holiday with Ben home, and I know it will be a blast for him. And some of my family is coming out from New York for Easter, and I can’t wait to see them and show off our new house and our new son.

And, I am excited about warmer weather. As much as I love the snow and all the fun things we do during our very looooooong winters up here, I am looking forward to the sunshine and days at the park and being out in the yard. I am looking forward to kids on bikes all day and hours of bouncing on the trampoline. Ok, so I am not looking forward to yard work…I admit that I kind of like when it is all buried in snow and I don’t have to worry about the grass. But I am looking forward to being out in the yard with the kids. This will be our first spring/summer in our new house, with a full acre yard. Lots of room to run.

School gets out in the middle of May here, and I am also looking forward to having my kids home. Don’t get me wrong…I often breathe a sigh of relief when my big kids get on the bus each morning and the house gets a bit quieter for awhile But I love having them all home too. I love not having to be as structured when there is no school. I love having lots of family play time. I always feel like I get a lot closer to the kids when they are all home and we have so much more time to spend together.

So, Happy Spring everybody! It’s time to do some spring cleaning, open up the windows and enjoy those early flowers (ok, I have a while before flowers!) Spring seems to symbolize a fresh start on things. Warmer weather, sunnier skies, new season, new babies, new flowers (daffodils and daisies are my favorite). Enjoy!
