How not to handle frustration

Here is some advice for you... :)

When you are having one of "those days", and it feels like every little thing is going wrong, and fate is laughing at you...and you are completely out of patience and feeling outrageously frustrated...and you are trying hard not to take it out on the people around you...and then you remember that stupid thing that "THEY" always say about punching a pillow or some such thing to vent your frustrations...

I HIGHLY recommend that you really do punch a pillow, and DO NOT instead kick a wooden shoe rack. (see above). Kicking a wooden shoe rack will not, in fact, make you feel any better, and will in fact, make you feel much worse. Instead of just being frustrated, you will now be frustrated and also in great pain and feeling (and looking) very foolish. It will not help you find your keys, get the kids out the door any faster, make progress on the giant piles of laundry, make the phone stop ringing, get something fixed for dinner, get the unfinished bathroom completed or get your daughter home from Africa any earlier. It will, hurt a lot. I really can't say how much I do not recommend this.

Yes, that is a picture of my foot in it's current condition, after I stupidly kicked a shoe rack in an un-characteristic moment of bubbling frustration. Some of my kids think it looks cool...my girls are being very sympathetic...my husband says he has finally rubbed off on me...my dear Ryan asked me to put a sock on because, "when he looks at it, it makes his foot hurt and then he feels nauseous." thanks Ry.

So, I will be home this weekend, and promise to write more soon (and be back on topic).
Take this post as a "what not to do when feeling frustrated" tutorial.

Ooch...I had a similar bruise when I dropped a large bottle of ketchup on my foot just a couple of months back. Gosh, feet take a long time to heal!

And this is probably not the right thing to say right now, but I'm glad to hear that you (who seem to be able to manage your family with super-human capacity) have those days, too.

It gives hope to the rest of us.

Oh Erin, that looks so painful! Did you break it? I broke a blood vessel in my calf once because I stomped my foot so hard in frusteration - I'm glad I'm not the only one who inflicts injury on herself! But at least our kids aren't black and blue, right? Hope your foot heals fast and you find a softer spot to kick next time :)

Oh, Erin, so sorry....... Okay - I confess, I am chuckling just a little. Your storytelling is quite humorous, so while I am sad for your foot I am still chuckling...... I had a bad week too, but I just bawled like a baby. I thought that was bad, but I guess its better than kicking a wooden shoe rack :)

Erin, I just did something similar a few weeks ago. Sorry I did not warn you that this does not work. I did not tape my toes together and now they look like that wierd hand gesture Spock gives on Star Trek!
I went swimming alot when it was healing, seemed to help the pain. Good luck!

Erin - I am sorry, but I do have a little chuckle deep down that is being held back - only because I could see myself in that post.

This might make a good picture for one of Avery's caption me Wednesday posts.

Erin - I'm sorry to see your foot, but glad to know that you are human. I was pretty sure that you were SuperWoman until now. Wait...I still think you are (-:

Could we get an updated yellow and green photo? I checked back just in case you had thought of that.

Ummmmmmm, No. One revolting photo of myself is enough for the week. But thanks for asking Rich. (And yes, the yellows and greens are settling in quite nicely).
