I just can't force myself to seriously write about the whole "Madonna going to Malawi and building an orphanage and adopting a baby boy and having all the rules waived" thing, which may or may not have happened, depending on which articles you read.
I am sick of reading about it all over adoption land today...
Maybe once I know what really is or isn't happening and what has and hasn't happened, I will write about it.
For now I am just going to say that IF they waived the adoption rules for her, I think that stinks. It sends the message that the rules can be changed for a price, which is a dangerous thing when you want to preserve the integrity of international adoptions.
And IF she is really dumping a ton of money into Malawi to help the orphans, I think that's awesome, no matter what her reasons may be.
And IF she really is adopting a baby, it is not my place to decide if that is good or bad, or if she will be a good or bad parent. I can't stand when people that don't really know me judge my parenting abilities and my adoption decisions, so I won't do that to others I don't know personally.
And, I always have to feel that anytime attention is drawn to the miserable conditions people are living in in Africa right now, and any time the overwhelming number of orphans and their level of suffering is focused on...any time people are reminded just how lucky we are and how many others are not...it is a good thing.
And that's all I am going to say about the Material Girl today.
