Ok, let me preface this by saying that I have a pretty liberal sense of humor... I was raised in New York by a single dad who works in politics...
Although I am a religious gal and have become a lot more aware and sensitive to different issues as an adult, I would still say that I don't take offense easily.
Today, I am offended.
Check out this clip from Comedy Central. (But only if you haven't eaten recently).
I like Comedy Central, and I get the point that they make fun of stuff... that is what they do... I get sarcasm... but this is above and beyond what is ok to me.
In the clip they mock the popularity of celebrities adopting (which honestly I do not see as a trend... so several high profile celebrities have adopted recently... when you look at the HUGE number of celebrities in this country, it is only a tiny percentage).

Some of the quotes I took offense too (way too many to list them all...watch it and see)
"Africa is the new Prada store". Like you can go to Africa and shop for a baby...like the country is a store and babies are handbags. Ick.
"These little foreign morsels...." Morsels?? It seems awfully low to me to be picking on the poorest and most defensless people on the planet...orphaned children.
"Just pick a color..." You've got to be kidding me.
"Asian babies can't drive" and a handfull of other "Asian baby" jokes. Again, it all makes me want to vomit.
The whole thing is chock full of racist, rude and stereotypical comments.
They did have a "real adoption expert" on the show...Susan Cox from Holt International (who is an adult adoptee from Korea herself). They did not let her get a word in edge-wise, and she looks completely disgusted in the clip. I have only heard wonderful things about Holt and Susan Cox, but I wonder what she thought the clip was honestly going turn out like??? It was the DAILY SHOW for crying out loud. I hope that she is as disgusted as I am.
Honestly, I have a great sense of humor (I think) and I don't mind a good teasing in the name of funny, but this has gone too far. Am I being too sensitive, or does this make anyone else want to lose their lunch??
Follow up... This is being discussed on an adoption forum... some seem to be upset by this, some seem to think that since it is in the name of satire and sarcasm and is just the way that this show is (and since they are making fun of the people that "don't get it") that it is ok and I am overreacting...
Thoughts???
