Our DD is African American. My DH is Asian (Okinawan), and I’m caucasian, so we’re pretty much a diverse family. Like DD I was adopted as an infant. DD is a year old, and we are actively participating in “ethnic” events. Some events are Asian, some are African American, and some are consistent with my 2nd generation German background. There’s Kwanzaa and Hina Matsuri and Erntedankfest. At the dinner table you’ll find sauerbraten, shushimi and collard greens. DD has dolls of color. The angel on top of our Christmas tree this year was African American in appearance. We’re getting lots of advice about hair/skin care. Well, you get the idea.
Here’s the thing, though – we’re having a blast! I’m not saying we’re doing everything right. But we’re trying and learning and networking. Obviously, we’re a work in progress. Any advice anyone can give will be appreciated.
