I have one more transcultural adoption article to share with you. Several days ago the Chicago Tribune had this article titled,
"Muhammad's special reception". The article tells about Chicago Bears wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad and his wife, Christa, who recently brought home two new children that they adopted internationally from Ethiopia.
The couple already has three daughters and a son at home, and I was not able to find any details about the ages or genders of the two children the couple adopted from Ethiopia.
While the article in the Chicago Tribune is short and sweet, I was glad to see a positive article about international adoption, and an uplifting story about the personal life of an NFL player (instead of the usual celebrity in trouble type of articles we see so often about professional athletes).
The article had quotes from Muhammad's team mate, Desmond Clark, and from Muhammad's coach, Bear's Head Coach Lovie Smith. Clark talks about how excited Muhammad has been about the addition of his two new children, and I think it's great to hear about an adoptive father's excitement and joy.
I also like that Coach Lovie Smith's quote encourages others to consider adopting and/or fostering a child. He talks about how people who have the financial means to help a child should strongly consider it.
Of course as I have said often on here, wanting to help a child can not be your sole reason to adopt (nor should it be your primary reason). The main motivation to adopt should always be the desire for a child. However, I also agree that it would be great if more people who have the ability considered adopting and/or fostering a child.
And I have to finish up by saying that I was thrilled that there were not any comments in the article about Muhammad and his wife adopting because it was "cool" or "trendy" or anything like that, and there wasn't a single mention of Angelina.
Even though he is a Bears player and I am a die hard Giants fan, this makes me a bit of a Muhsin Muhammad fan. :)
I wish the Muhammad family the very best with their new children.
