No news is no news

There is a popular saying that "No news is good news", and while I can definitely see how in many different situations that would certainly be a true statement, I can also say with confidence that most often when it comes to adoption, no news is definitely not good news.

When you have sent in your initial application to your homestudy and/or adoption agency and are waiting to get the paperwork you need to officially start your adoption process, no news is not good news.

When you have filed your I600A for an international adoption and have sent in all the necessary paperwork and had your fingerprints done but weeks later still have no immigration approval, no news is not good news.

When you have put together the perfect family profile for your domestic adoption to be shown to pregnant women who are considering placing their babies for adoption and there is nothing left to do but sit and wait for the phone to ring and someone to tell you that a mom has chosen you to give her baby to and the phone doesn't ring day in and day out, no news is not good news.

When you have submitted your completed dossier for your international adoption and are awaiting a referral, and the days drag on and you are so filled with excitement and anxiety to finally hear about and see the child that is going to be yours and for that moment to come when the crazy adoption process finally feels real, no news is not good news.

When you have accepted a referral and are in love with a photo of a child that is far far away and the wait to travel is so much harder than the wait for a referral and all you can do is obsess over when you will be able to finally go and be united with your child and worry about all the things that could possibly go wrong while you wait, no news is not good news.

And I can tell you from much personal experience this past week, that when you are waiting to hear if your child is legally yours and you will soon be on your way to bring him home or if the process is going to drag out for a few more weeks or more, no news is definitely not good news.

I am sure that there are some adoption situations and scenarios when no news would actually be good news, but most often when you are in the middle of an adoption, if you do not have news then you are anxiously waiting for news, and any experienced adoptive parent can tell you that the waiting is one of the very worst parts of adopting.

No news is not good news. No news is making me crazy.
