Here are some blogs/posts that I am going to recommend for your reading pleasure. :)
There are oodles of family blogs that I read and “check in” with that are great, but here are some specific posts and blogs that have go beyond the typical fun family updates and have had something really good (in my opinion) to say lately. Food for thought if you will…
Ethiopian Adoption Travelogue- The Feb. 4 post on the Take One Book and Ethiopia Reads program is a great one, AND she is giving away a free book. I say “Pick me! Pick me!”
Add the info to your blog and get in on the contest, if this is something that interests you. Beyond that, if you are adopting from Ethiopia, there is a TON of awesome pictures and info on traveling in Ethiopia on this blog. Enjoy!
Burakaeyae- This is another Ethiopia adoptive family blog, and I love this post of Heather’s on the RED campaign. I have made some not so subtle hints for a RED Ipod for Valentine’s Day… There is lots of other great info on here, especially tips for making injera (Ethiopian food staple).
Victoria’s Hope is the blog for
Until All Have Homes, which is a non-profit organization that advocates to find homes for special needs children from all over the world. Many of the children they have listed have grants to help cover adoption costs. The blog is fairly new, so there is not a lot of posts yet, but you can definitely get a good idea of the work they are doing.
Leave it to Avery- This is a cool blog because it is written by a Dad… Avery (who happens to be married to Heather from a blog above). Avery wrote this post about Black History month, and he offers lots of food for thought (as does the rest of his blog). Give it a read!
My friend Tana (who has adopted children from China and Haiti) writes the
LDS Adoption Blog for
adoption.com and she has had some really thought provoking posts lately on adoptions as “Meant to be or Made to be?” She discusses the thoughts that some people have regarding being “destined” to be with their adopted children and all that that may imply. Good stuff! (and I have been meaning to go and leave a comment…)
Denise-If you have somehow missed Denise’s blog, this is a highly recommended read by me and many other adoptive parents. Denise was a volunteer at AAI’s Layla House in Ethiopia for many months, and her daily blog is an awesome look into the life of both children in an orphanage in Africa, as well as daily life in Ethiopia and the life of a volunteer. Even if you are not adopting from Ethiopia, this is a great read. Denise entered her last post on Feb. 1, when she arrived home again in the U.S. I have talked to her since she got home and she is hanging in there…missing Ethiopia big time!
