She Lied

The officer at the Department of Homeland Security in Nairobi Kenya lied to officials in Washington DC regarding our waiver. She said it was approved on Friday and mailed on Monday. It was not.

We just got a tracking number, and found that the waiver was only mailed tonight, after she was pushed by other immigration personnel for a tracking number.

So we have no hope for tomorrow (no flight either)...and we're praying that somehow DHL can get it here by Friday before noon so I can fork out $1500 and get on our way home...otherwise...otherwise is too rotten to talk about right now.

Oh Erin...I am so sorry to hear this. I popped in to see how things were going for you and Belane and was just really upset to see this. I registered here so I could leave you a quick message... I can't even imagine how frustrating this must be. I'm hoping that it arrives and you're able to get on the Friday flight. Why was it so hard for this person to do her job properly? At least have the decency to be honest about it so you didn't have to get your hopes up! UGH

Thinking of you! Say Happy Birthday to Josh from us.

Love, Katie

PS - Have you guys tried the banana pancakes from room service? Jack was a big fan.

Sooooo sorry Erin. Is this that crabby woman that has treated other families so awful? Gee, I can't wait to work with her :( I sure hope she is reprimanded for this. I know it is heartwrenching for you to be away from your kids.....not to mention the expense. Keep hanging on! You girls can do it. You're almost there.......

Erin, that is awful - the employee obviously has no idea how much has been complicated by her lie, or is incredibly uncaring about the other people affected.

We're glad that it's finally mailed, and praying things work to get you both home quickly.

OMG!!! She lied!!! How horrible is that! Does she not realize that there is an innocent child in the middle of all of this, not to mention her dedicated mother and family! I'm so sorry! I'll be praying too!

Erin,

I am so sorry. When you are waiting for papers to clear (it was only ICPC for us....) each day seems like 10 days. One small decision on her behalf makes such a difference for you...... that stinks.

Let's see...should I bet the annoying person that says "well, at least you get to fly business....". Just kidding. I know you would swim home if you had that wavier in your hands.

Grrr

Erin,
Just checking in to see where you were (literally!) and am shocked and in disbelief that you are STILL waiting. Just unbelievable. You and your family continue to be lifted up in our prayers. Godspeed.

So Erin, should we go after her job?! I have had SO many negative experiences with US employees overseas - I'm sure they take nasty lessons. That's what makes Zambia and Jo'berg so refreshing - people there actually want to help - what a concept!! I'm sure we can start putting some pressure on via our elected officials. ;) Keep hanging in there. You'll be home soon, I just know it.

Oh Erin! This feels remarkably like my life in Haiti two years ago and I totally understand that "kicked in the gut" feeling and wanting to take it out on someone...at least I did! You are in my prayers!!
