The rest of our getaway

The rest of the weekend was great. The kids went to see a movie (Flushed Away…probably not going to win any Oscars, but they enjoyed it) and then after they picked us up after our appointments, we went and played on a big old playground and had a lot of fun playing freeze tag and running races. Marcus and Belane were very happy to be “free” from the doctor’s offices, and we had a lot of fun.

We went to check in at the hotel, and then went to a mall, where we walked around and looked at the Christmas stuff, rode on the carousel and then let all of the kids each pick their own dinner in the food court, which they all think is the biggest treat. We got some cookies at Mrs. Field’s, (and a sweet pretzel for Marcus…cookies have eggs…pretzels don’t).

After that we went back to the hotel, where we split up into a girls’ room and a boys’ (next door to each other). We had six in each room, four in two double beds in each room, and two in sleeping bags on the floor in each room. It works really well.

We got all of the kids showered/bathed and into pajamas, and since we had woken them up at 5:30 a.m. to leave that morning, they all were happy to lay down and watch some TV, and then we all fell asleep.

Funny thing…they were replacing all of the mattresses in the hotel that day…we were the first people to sleep on the brand new mattresses in our rooms. How many people can say that? :)

The next morning Josh ran and got some bagels, chocolate milk and orange juice. After breakfast, we got up and went to Thanksgiving Point, which has a really fun dinosaur museum. It has all sorts of interactive things…the kids can play in an erosion table with water and sand, build a dinosaur with giant “parts”, play dinosaur games on computers, play with dinosaur toys, dress up in dinosaur costumes, draw pictures, do “shadings” of fossils, play in caves, dig in a huge sand pit for dinosaur bones, etc. And of course there are tons of things to see and learn. We had a great time there, and it was really nice to have a “fun day”.

We went to lunch after the museum and then headed home. We got home at dinner time and had cereal for dinner, which the kids thought was awesome and weird all at the same time.

So, we had two good doctor appointments and a lot fun together as a family, which was our objective!

I will get back into answering the questions and answers this afternoon… I have a few that I still have to answer.

More soon.

Hi Erin & Family. Thank you for allowing us to read the updates on the blog and on our Yahoo group. I am glad to hear that most everything is going well with both Belane and Marcus. I guess there are almost always some sort of surprises/unpleasantness with kids' medical appointments when they first arrive home from overseas. We're all here with you in spirit at least. You've got a big community pulling for all of you!

It sounds like a nice "mini-vacation". We live about 15-20 minutes from Thanksgiving Point. I am SO bummed that we possibly could have seen you! :-( Maybe next time.

Erin! I was AT Thanksgiving Point on Saturday with MY family. We went to the gingerbread exhibit, the museum and saw Santa Claus III. Girl, you have GOT to visit with us when you are down here!
