I have this post bookmarked, and every single time I read it, I whisper a little "amen" and wipe away tears. I've referred countless others to it. Thank you again, Erin.

If I hadn't been in favor of international adoption prior to traveling to Guatemala, I was certainly one by the time I left. These children need adoption, need relief, need food, need care, need loving homes and they need them NOW. Not later, when everyone gets around to figuring out long term solutions or if having parents of a different color is abhorrent to a starving, beaten, weary orphan.

How sad, I want to adopt every one of those children you wrote about. My bi-racial son is 3 1/2 now. We got him as a foster child at 8 mos. He had been in a foster placement since birth with a family who were worried he was starting to "bond" to them and didn't want him to start calling them mom and dad (WHAT??). He has bonded very nicely to our family and is an absolute joy. I think I noticed alot of double takes at first but everyone has smiled and made us feel that this is a good thing. He matter-of-factly says things like, "that guy is the same color as me" when an African American man walks by at Walmart or has recently told my husband that he's starting to turn "black like me" because my husband tans in the summer. It's not a big deal to him so far and we intend to keep it that way. I would do it again in a heartbeat, every child needs a home, no matter what color.

I was thrilled to see your comments on transracial adoption. I am White and adopted my Black daughter when she was three weeks old - she is now eleven. I have read and studied every book on transracial adoption I could get my hands on. Some supported transracial adoption, some did not. I wrote a college paper on the subject and posted it on my blog. See: http://bothfeetonthepath.blogspot.com<br />
Thanks for helping the important cause of transracial adoption.
