I promised I would let you all in on what we are up to, so here is the big announcement.
We are at it again! We have committed to an absolutely beautiful little boy at AHOPE, whose name will be Solomon Tsega Eyasu H. He is almost two years old, and did I mention that he is beautiful?
I have lots to share about our journey so far. I have been bottling it all up until I was sure that pieces were falling into place, that it was really going to happen and that we got to tell the important people in our lives before blabbing it all over the internet. Pieces are falling, things are happening and people were informed. Now I can blab.
I have all sorts of emotions to discuss, but first lets start with how this all came to be.
We first came in contact with Solomon when we were in Ethiopia in October of last year to get Belane. We were actually at Adoption Advocates International’s Layla House the day that he was brought in. We were told that he had tested HIV+ and would be moved to AHOPE very soon. We were also told that they had recently had a family request an HIV+ boy under the age of two, so they were glad he would not be waiting long for a family.
I could not spend much time with him. I could not pick him up and give him loves, because Belane had death grip around my neck (and was very nervous being at Layla House, probably worried that we were going to leave her at a new orphanage). But we sat down in the large baby room and Josh tried to put winter ski-type hats on hot sweaty babies (ladies from our church had made the hats and desperately wanted pictures of them on real Ethiopian babies). The hats were ridiculous for the weather, and the combination of the huge, scary white man and the bright and hot snow hats were enough to make all but the most good-natured of the babies very upset. A few pictures were snapped of the two babies who were in good moods and did not mind Josh or the stinking ski hats, and that was the end of that endeavor.
Then Josh started “looking” for a few of the babies we had promised to take pictures of for other adoptive parents. As he went around scaring babies with his size, paleness, facial hair and camera, I sat quietly with Belane and watched all of the going-ons.
Solomon was not in the main part of the room with everyone else. He was off in a small, white crib in the corner, by himself, as if he was set aside to be sent on his way to somewhere else. He looked sad, sick and completely shell-shocked. He looked like a little boy that was completely overwhelmed with life and had just given up. He didn’t cry or show much emotion at all, he just sat there with those huge eyes, looking at us in the most awful and hopeless way. My heart really broke for him but I was comforted by the fact that he would soon be getting doted on by the wonderful AHOPE staff and even more so by the fact that we were told he would have a family right away.
At that point I had no inkling that that family would be us.
Continued in my next post.
Oh, and let me say that I would love to post picture after gorgeous picture of this amazing little kid, but the Ethiopian government does not want pictures of the kids posted until the cases have gone through court (at which point he will be officially ours). So until then, you are going to have to take me word on his extreme level of gorgeousness. But I promise I will share as soon as I can.
Do you like my dice picture? No, I have not taken up gambling to pay the adoption bills, that is “eleven”, for the amazing number of kids I now consider myself Mom to.

Yay! Congratulations Josh and Erin and….um, I don’t think I can name all the kids!
Too bad courts aren’t open! He should be home this year yet though, right?
Yay, I’m so happy for you all!
Blessings,
Jenny
The dice, nice. But I won’t be surprised to see ‘boxcars’ next year!
I thought the dice were cute and then I got it at the bottom when you mentioned that it was 11 for the 11 kids you will have. Too cute!
Congrats on sharing the big news! I am so excited for you all – and for little Solomon, too!
By the way…I love his name!

Erin,
I have lost contact with you thru the years and just now have been reading up on your life……. I am thrilled that Solomon will be joining your family! That is great news — in a world that does not embrace children it is so refreshing to meet and know that there are still famiies out there who do WANT kids! Way to go, mom!!!
Hugs,
Gloria
