Wednesday funny- the Vietnamese Princess

Ok, as promised, a Wednesday funny.

For quite a while now, Josh has taken to calling the little girls his “princesses”. (My girls are obsessed with princess anything, which is how it started). He calls Maggie his “princess from Vietnam” and he calls Amana his “princess from Korea”, and since Belane has been home, she has been dubbed Daddy’s “princess from Ethiopia.”

The girls love it and it really sticks…if I say to Belane, “Come here princess,” she’ll counter with, “from Ethiopia” every time. It’s adorable.

But this funny is about Maggie.

We have a huge map of the Earth on our dining room wall…with all of the countries labeled and all of their flags in a chart underneath. The kids love it, and we have lots of fun conversations centered around the map. All of the kids know how to find Vietnam, Korea, Ethiopia and quite a few others, as well as their flags.

Right before the holidays (and her dang appendix decided to burst) I was hanging out with Maggie by the map, and she showed me (again) where Vietnam is. She started talking about how we are going to go there when she is older (which I tell her often) and she got to deciding who she was going to sit next to on the plane (me and Mercy in case you are wondering).

Then she got a really serious look and said, “Mom, it is really important that I go visit Vietnam.” I got all emotional, thinking she had some deep, meaningful reason for why it was important for her to return to the place that she was born…however…

When I asked her “why” it was important for her to go back to Vietnam she put her hands on her hips and said (in a "duhh-you are an idiot" tone), “Well Mom….I AM their princess…EVERYONE there is going to want to see me!”

Ikes.

I think Maggie has grand delusions of arriving in Vietnam to a red carpet and cheering crowds and doves being released into the air…

Daddy’s princess indeed.

How cute!! I think it's fantastic - every child should feel so loved and so important that they truly believe they are a princess (or prince).

Someone might want to clue her in to some issues somewhere between now and that Vietnam plane ride in the future, though?? hehe....

SO cute...the story and the girl. Her hair is so SHINY!! I have never seen such shiny hair on a child. She sure has princess hair (and the perfectly straight bangs!! You are awesome!!!).

Always love to hear Maggie stories....

I love how kids can turn moments you're think are going to be ultra-serious into moments that just make you want to smile all over!

I hope there will always be a part of her that feels so enTITLED!

She'll learn soon enough that red carpets and such are reserved for people with good PR machines and that the truly regal walk amongst us.
