What’s in store for 2007 on the transracial adopt blog?
I plan to continue to share and discuss articles related to racial issues and transracial adoption in the media. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised how much attention these topics got in the media in 2006…even when what was being said wasn’t totally encouraging, I think it is always a good thing to call attention to these topics and getting people to talk about them.
I will also continue with general adoption advice and tackling the big issues related to transracial adoption. I plan on revamping the “categories”, to help make it easier to find information you may be searching for.
I have been waiting to see how the Hague Convention is going to affect adoption programs until I do too much more work on the “Transracial Adoption Options” category. I have yet to write about Guatemala and several other big programs, but since change is on the horizon, I have been holding off. But I will be working on those in the near future.
I also will continue to share “Life with 10” stories…how our large transracial adoptive family handles day to day life, adoption issues, racial issues, and every thing else. And I will certainly continue to specifically share about Belane and how she is adjusting and how her medical treatment is going, in hopes of educating people on the realities of HIV, and possibly encouraging others to consider adopting an HIV+ child, as well as sharing the realities of a toddler adoption.
Other topics that will be returning are Wednesday Funnies, Unphotographable Fridays, Words to Live By and Top 10 lists. And of course I will continue to provide resources of all types for transracial and transcultural adoptive families.
New this year, I want to start a “book review”, where I review books related to transracial adoption. I’m also going to start a “Day in the Life”, where every month on the 15th I will share everything that happened in my day that day…the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. :)
I have a few big topics I plan on tackling in the next few weeks, including sleep in adoptive children, international vs. domestic adoption, and the “D” word…disruption.
As always, I welcome your suggestions, especially if you have an area of concern regarding adoption, a question, a resource suggestion or a recommended book or article. I appreciate you reading and your comments!
